Garbage Collection and Recycling

Prospect provides weekly backdoor garbage pickup, biweekly recycling pickup at the curb, and weekly yard waste pickup at the curb.

Collection Schedules:

Garbage collection is once a week at the back door on either Monday or Tuesday, depending on your neighborhood. Yard waste is collected once a week at the curb on the same day as your garbage pickup.  Recycling is picked up in rolling carts every other Thursday at the curb. Call the City Hall, 228-1121, to determine your trash days.  Click here to view Rumpke's Holiday Schedule.

Recycling:

Recyclables must be disposed of in the city-loaned rolling cart recycling container and placed at the curb for mechanical pickup. Residents do not need to sort recyclables. If you have moved into an existing residence, a rolling cart recycling container should have been left for you to use. If you have moved into a new residence, or there is no rolling cart recycling container, please call City Hall at 228-1121 for a new one.  Click here to view Prospect's recycling calendar.

Yard waste:

Grass, leaves, and brush (i.e., small branches, twigs) from general yard maintenance are collected weekly at the curb. Materials must be placed separately in containers marked “yard waste” or in special paper lawn and leaf bags found at most area stores. Branches no larger than three inches in diameter must be tied with twine in bundles no longer than four feet in length and weigh no more than forty pounds per bundle. If you have an unusually large amount of such items, please alert our contractor at 568-3800 ahead of time. Yard waste is collected year-round.

Large junk items:

If you have a large pickup, such as an appliance or furniture, please contact and schedule with our solid waste contractor, Rumpke, at 1-800-828-8171.  Appliances containing freon CANNOT be accepted.  Mattresses and box springs must be completely covered in plastic.

Items not allowed:

In accordance with federal law, Rumpke does not accept batteries, tires, liquids, combustible materials, or any items identified as hazardous. Bulky materials including construction materials, such as drywall, concrete, bricks, dirt, or rocks also are not accepted.
